Service, advocacy, innovation, and impact—these are hallmarks that have characterized the Alliance for Children and Families and its network of nonprofit human service organizations for nearly 100 years.
The Alliance celebrated this shared history as part of the 2010 Alliance National Conference Oct. 20-22 in Milwaukee. A record-breaking 510 attendees gathered to experience unparalleled opportunities to network, learn, and become inspired.
This year’s event was the first Alliance conference for David McConnell, executive vice president and CFO at Alliance member One Hope United, Chicago. “The value is both the networking capacity—the ability to meet lots of people in our field—as well as the breakout, instructional sessions; (they are) wonderful, very instructional.”
The conference also formally kicked off the Alliance’s yearlong centennial celebration, which will conclude at the 2011 Alliance National Conference Oct. 17-19 in Washington, D.C.
Retired executives and board members of Alliance member organizations were and are encouraged to take part in the centennial celebration, and the Alliance tailored workshops and programs for these groups.
Cynthia Stone, a second-time attendee and board member at Family Service Association, Egg Harbor Township, N.J., says there are many benefits for board members who take part. “I would definitely encourage other board members to attend because I think it really brings a lot to your involvement in the agency to see this on a national level.”
