For Christ Child House, “It’s never too late to have a happy childhood.” Guided by this philosophy, Christ Child House, a private nonprofit organization, has been providing care for abused and neglected children in the Detroit area since 1948.
Since opening its doors, Christ Child House has evolved dramatically as the needs of children and families have changed. Today, Christ Child House is an intensive residential treatment center licensed by Michigan to provide services to 30 boys, ages 5-17, who suffer from severe developmental, emotional, and behavioral impairments as a result of years of damaging abuse and neglect.
The organization is owned and operated by the Christ Child Society of Detroit, which helps to fund Christ Child House’s $2 million budget along with governmental fees, private donations, foundations, and grants.
The organization’s operational efficiency has been recognized by the Council on Accreditation, which granted Christ Child House “expedited reaccreditation” status in early 2009. This elite status is given to only 10 percent of all accredited agencies and recognizes that, across all categories, the organization has no significant flaws requiring corrective action.
