Learning, Connecting Continue with ELI Alumni Group

While the Executive Leadership Institute (ELI) provides the foundation for lifelong leadership through its scheduled activities and requirements, another benefit of the program is the lasting connections made between participants. (Learn more by reading the main article.)

As 2009 ELI graduate Marissa Espinoza, wraparound program manager at Alliance member Casa Pacifica, Camarillo, Calif., says, “One of the biggest takeaways for me was the relationships, networking, and support from the other participants.”

To capitalize on those relationships and the desire expressed by a majority of graduates to complement their experiences with continued learning, ELI has established the ELI Alumni Connections group. The group offers graduates opportunities for continued professional growth, support in their work setting, and sharing leadership experiences with their peers.

“We are offering our graduates a robust opportunity to continue their networking and connecting,” says Undraye Howard, director of consultation and leadership services for the Alliance. “Learning doesn’t stop when participants graduate; it continues throughout their career. We believe the ELI Alumni Connections group will foster that.”

Last year’s activities included a survey of graduates and the formation of a 12-member ELI Alumni Connections Board, which is made up of graduates. The board determines activities that will engage ELI alumni, while also helping to promote ELI to potential future participants.

Upcoming events and opportunities for members of the ELI Alumni Connections group include webinars, a preconference event at the 2009 Alliance National Conference, mentoring opportunities, a listserv, professional learning information on the ELI website, and other social networking activities.
